Teaching Visual Literacy

Engagement is critical to pupil motivation during the learning process. Stimulating visuals have the potential to engage your pupils. Visuals promote a student’s ability to organise and process information (McKendrick & Bowden, 1999), and challenge students to think on levels that require higher order thinking skills (Smith & Blankinship, 2000). Learning objects.

Pupils need to know how to 'read' images. They are constantly being bombarded with visual images. They need to be able to discern the meaning and appreciate how they are being positioned.
